December 2004
Brethren,
As Medina Lodge #58 F&AM begins its 186th year it is indeed my great pleasure to greet you from the East as your newly installed Worshipful Master. Thank you to all who attended. It was indeed very gratifying to see the room so full in support of your Lodge and newly elected officers. For those who were not at the installation you missed the outstanding work done by Most Worshipful Brother Richard Wilson, PGM of Masons in Ohio.
We are looking forward to a busy year beginning with the meeting of December 2nd when we will be honoring our twenty-five, fifty, sixty, and sixty-five year members. This will be an open meeting so bring your family and friends to learn a little bit more about Masonry and what it stands for. We will open lodge at 7:00 PM with the awards ceremony at 7:30 or slightly earlier.
There will be only one Stated meeting in December because of the Christmas and New Years Holidays. That will take place on December 9th at 7:30 PM. Besides our usual business we expect to have two Brethren return their Entered Apprentice exams that night so we can confer the Fellow Craft Degree upon them one week later on December 16th starting at 7:00 PM.
One last item - please mark your 2005 calendar for February 17th when Medina Lodge will have its annual inspection in the Entered Apprentice Degree. We will be serving a dinner of baked ham and sweet potatoes. More details on this will follow.
In Brotherly Love and Respect,
Ted Thomas, WM
Billie R. Dillinger
It is with regret that we record the death at the age of 66, on Monday, 15 November 2004, of Brother Billie R. Dillinger. Brother Dillinger was initiated into Medina Lodge on 15 September 1988 at the age of 50. Our deepest sympathies are extended to his family.
Annual Dues
Annual Dues were payable as of the Annual Meeting, November 11, 2004. Members whose dues remain unpaid after December 31, 2004 are required to be suspended and thus lose all Masonic rights and privileges.
Members whose dues have not been received by December 19, 2004 will receive a Notice of Suspension for Non-Payment of Dues shortly after that date. Dues received on or before December 31 automatically rescind the suspension.

MASONIC SNIPPETS Hiram Abiff Boaz, born December 18, 1866, in Murray, Kentucky, received his degrees in 1922. In 1953, at age 87, he served as Grand Chaplin (Texas).
Joseph A. Gilmore (1811-1867), former governor of New Hampshire, was made a Mason at sight on April 28, 1863. He received the Scottish Rite degrees and was awarded the 33rd degree on May 7, 1863 - only 9 days later.
Between 1890 (when it became a state) and 1951, every governor of Wyoming, except one, was a Mason. The one, Mrs. William A. Ross, was the wife of a Mason and a member of the Eastern Star.
In 1920, Gate City Lodge No. 522, Kansas City, Missouri, met every day of the week except Sunday to confer a record 1,107 degrees, averaging 21 degrees a week. (Apparently, this is not the answer to our attrition dilemma – Gate City Lodge is no longer on the rolls of the Grand Lodge of Missouri. - editor)
When asked of Masonry, President William McKinley explained: "After the battle of Opequam, I went with the surgeon of our Ohio regiment to the field where 5,000 Confederate prisoners were under guard. As soon as we passed the guard, the doctor shook hands with a number of prisoners and began passing out his roll of bills. On the way back to camp I asked him, 'Did you know those men?' 'No.' 'But you gave them a lot of money, do you expect to get it back?' 'If they are able to pay me back, they will. It makes no difference to me; they are brother Masons in trouble and I am only doing my duty.' I said to myself, 'If that is Masonry, I will take some of it myself.'"
